Happy Thanksgiving - Issue 6

Morning Chapel at KES. It is a tradition that dates back 150 years in the School's Hensley Memorial Chapel. The bell still rings out in invitation. The pews still bear the names of countless alumni who have etched their names into the wood worn smooth from use. The staff still wear their academic gowns.

It may seem like a scene from Hogwarts, something J.K. Rowling imagined when writing her Harry Potter novels, but the reality is that gathering students in a sacred space designed for spiritual and personal reflection is hugely beneficial. Maybe even more so today than in 1877.

This week's service for the Grade 10s and 11s stands out in my mind as exceptional. The Chapel was full, with students overflowing onto the choir pews by the altar, and the congregation's participation was inspiring. When almost 200 students are saying the School Prayer together, the words take on greater life and meaning: “Endue its teachers with wisdom, zeal and patience. Inspire its students with the spirit of truth, honour, and duty. Grant to us all a cheerful and forbearing spirit, strength of body, clearness of mind, and purity of heart...”
We are fortunate to be here, to be surrounded by healthy traditions that continue to be embraced and honoured by students and staff alike. Our blessings are numerous.

And so I wish the entire KES Family the happiest, healthiest, and safest of Thanksgivings. May you be surrounded by love, experience the joy of family, and savour the bounty of the earth.
