This year’s Senior School play is the Shakespearean comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream. As we return from March Break, rehearsals have quickly regained momentum, and the focus has shifted toward final preparation. With show week now approaching, there is a sense of excitement throughout the cast and crew as they work to bring together everything they have developed over the past months.
Coming off the break, students are more familiar with their material than ever before, having used these two weeks to memorize and cement their lines and the rhythm of rehearsals. Lines, blocking, and character choices are being perfected, while scenes are run with greater consistency and flow. The cast has been working to ensure that their performances remain steady and confident in preparation for the stage.
As show week approaches, the dedication of the cast and crew becomes more evident with every rehearsal. What began as a collection of scenes and ideas is now forming into a complete production, ready to be shared with the community.
Introducing Ashton Houghton ’26, a Grade 12 student from Kentville, Nova Scotia, who is in his fourth year at King’s Edgehill School. Ashton joined the Senior School play as part of a personal goal to step outside of his comfort zone and pursue opportunities he had always been interested in. Over the past few years, theatre has played a significant role in his growth, helping him build confidence and express himself more openly. With this being his final year, Ashton sees this production as a meaningful way to conclude his high school experience. His interest in the performing arts began in Grade 10 during a production of Matilda the Musical, inspired by his admiration for a professional actor and a desire to explore a new path. Since then, theatre has become an important outlet for self-expression. Ashton values how the arts bring people together through a shared passion, creating a space defined by acceptance and collaboration. He encourages others to explore theatre and other art forms, emphasizing the sense of connection they provide. One of his favourite parts of rehearsals has been watching newer cast members grow in confidence and discover their talent.
Featuring Lilly Lynds ’27, a Grade 11 student from Truro, Nova Scotia, who has been at King’s Edgehill since Grade 10. Lils joined this year’s Senior School play as a member of the backstage crew after having a positive experience in last year’s production. With a long-standing interest in theatre and the performing arts, getting involved again was a natural decision. She enjoys the experience of working behind the scenes, where she can contribute to the production while still being part of the overall energy of the show. One of her favourite aspects of being backstage is the atmosphere created by both the cast and crew. With many of her friends performing on stage, the experience allows her to stay connected to the production while also spending time with people she knows. For Lils, working on the play is a combination of her interest in theatre and the opportunity to be part of a supportive and collaborative group.
We look forward to presenting this lively and chaotic production of A Midsummer Night's Dream from April 9–11, and we hope to see you there.
