Track and Field Western Regional Recap - Issue 35

KES athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the Western Region Track and Field Championships, earning multiple regional titles, relay victories, and qualifications for this weekend’s Provincial Championships at Beazley Field in Dartmouth.

 

The senior sprint group led the way with dominant performances on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. Emmanuel ’26 captured gold in both the Senior Boys 100m and 200m, while teammate Chibuikem ’27 added a bronze medal in the 200m and placed fourth in the 100m. The pair also helped power the Senior Boys 4×100m relay team, alongside Jacob ’27 and Alex ’27, to a regional championship victory. The same quartet later teamed up for bronze in the 4×400m relay.

 

In the intermediate division, Charlie ’28 sprinted to silver in the 100m, while Alfred ’28 earned silver in the 200m and bronze in the 400m. Samuel ’28, Charlie ’28, Alfred ’28, and Preston ’28 combined for another regional title in the Intermediate Boys 4×100m relay. Emmanuel ’31 added to the gold medal count with a first-place finish in the Junior Boys 200m, while Spencer ’30 earned silver in the Junior Boys 80m hurdles. Diego ’29 also reached the podium with bronze in the Intermediate Boys triple jump.

 

On the girls’ side, Chloe ’27 continued her exceptional season by winning both the Senior Girls 100m and 200m titles. Fedora ’27 added bronze in the 100m and fourth in the 200m, while Mielle ’28 placed fourth in both the Intermediate Girls 100m and 200m.

 

The highlight of the meet came in the Senior Girls 4×100m relay, where Fedora ’27, Mielle ’28, Lily ’27, and Chloe ’27 not only captured gold, but also set a new Western Region record. The same group, joined by Theresa ’28, later placed fourth in the 4×400m relay.

 

KES also saw strong performances in the field events, with Marlowe ’29 earning silver in the Intermediate Girls high jump and Zoey ’29 taking silver in the Intermediate Girls shot put.
