April is very soon upon us! There is a fun filled and challenging spring ahead with many cadet activities planned.
This past fall, platoons participated in OnTree Adventure high ropes course, canoeing on Pisiquid Lake, introduction to Jiu Jitsu martial arts, learning about marksmanship, adventure training, cycling, participating in the annual cadet fitness test, trekking Mount Moses wilderness trail, and gold star grade 10 leadership including music and marching skills being taught to Mil Band and Pipes & Drums bands.
The 254 is involved in many activities this spring! Along with Wednesday afternoon cadets from 2:30 to 5:00 pm, here is what is taking place:
April 8, Wednesday – Dress rehearsal for all cadets in full highland reds. This is in preparation for the Cadet Church Parade. Our Head of School is on hand to present the 4 year Army Cadet Service Medal and marksmanship awards.
April 14 Tuesday – Honour Guard welcomes Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) agents to KES.
April 15, Wednesday – Cadet Church Parade. Mandatory parade for all students. Cadets wear highland reds with a kilt, doublet, and balmoral. At 2:15 pm classes dismiss, everyone heads to the Tanna Turf, and at 2:45 pm all cadets march to Christ Church. At 3:30 pm the service starts. After, it’s back to campus for the 5:30 pm bus pickup.
April 30 Thursday & May 1 Friday – Silver Star Grade 9 Leadership Expedition at Falls Lake Campground. Camping, leadership, and living in a wilderness experience with friends will be a highlight of the spring!
May 1 Friday – Cadet Ball at KES starting at 8:00 pm after the Grade 12/Alumni Dinner. The Cadet Ball is open to platoon & speciality Sergeants, Warrant Officers, and all Grade 12 students. No Junior School attendance. An invitation is going out soon, and those who are invited may bring a guest.
May 11 Monday & May 12 Tuesday – Gold Star Leadership Expedition for Grade 10 students who are camping at Blomidon Bible Camp. On this leadership expedition, we’ll be hiking the scenic trails of Cape Split and Blomidon! What an awesome way to complete your Grade 10 year.
May 21 Thursday – Annual Cadet Review at 6:30 pm for all students. This is a mandatory parade! King’s-Edgehill School parent Captain (Navy) Tony Goode (retired) is the Reviewing Officer. We welcome and look forward to seeing parents, friends, and alumni at the inspection!
My thanks goes out to parents for supporting your children in the cadet program at King’s-Edgehill School. This will be a tremendous spring, which is sure to go by quickly! It’s a great day to be a cadet in the 254!
