Windsor Mat Kings - KES 22nd Annual

Senior boys placed second overall.
KES Club Team – Windsor Mat Kings, places 2nd overall in Home Tournament

With the “Work to Rule” in place for public schools, our 22nd Annual Wrestling Tournament was a club tournament. Although this saw a decline in numbers, it was nothing of the sort in quality. The tournament drew club teams from as far as Bathurst, N.B. and P.E.I. The tournament had Canada Games Wrestlers from both outside provinces as well as all of the Games wrestlers from the home province, in attendance. The Windsor Mat Kings placed 2nd overall in the senior male category. The school was led by a strong performance by team captain Nathan Danquah, with a second place result. His only loss was to a wrestler in the age group above his in the 100 kg class. This provided good experience for Nathan and although he wrestled well, there were a few changes that could have provided a different result in that match. Cesar Yaob Villarreal Guzman chipped in team points with a second place in the 85 kg class with some excellent results in his first tournament of the year.
Other fine performances were from Tea Racozzi, with a silver in her division. Josh Mills, unfortunately had to withdraw after a neck injury. He had experienced the same injury while in Ottawa last weekend at the National Capital Wrestling Festival. Both Josh and Taya were competing in Ottawa, along with the N.S. Canada Games Core Team. Josh’s younger brother, Noah, showed some excellent promise this past weekend, in his first ever wrestling competition, by placing 2nd overall. He has some very convincing wins along the way and will be one to look for as we progress to the high school provincials at East Hants on March 3 & 4th.
Our next competition is this coming weekend in Fredericton at the Eastern Canadian Wrestling Championships, with our club wrestlers. We will have Nathan, Tea and if physically able, Josh, in attendance. Our next full team commitment will be the following weekend at Sackville High School on Saturday, February 4th, followed by the N.S. Open Provincials on the Sunday.
