King’s-Edgehill Students Shine at Junior Provincials — Issue 24
King’s-Edgehill School is proud to celebrate Ruari Ryan '29 and Sokha Ebert '30, who represented our School at the Junior Provincial Debate Championships hosted by Halifax Grammar School in partnership with the Nova Scotia Debating Society (NSDS). This prestigious event serves as a national qualifier, bringing together top junior debaters from across the province.
The tournament began with two prepared rounds debating the motion: “This House believes that professional athletes should not be allowed to compete at the Olympic Games.” Ruari and Sokha demonstrated thoughtful analysis, strategic argumentation, and confident delivery—skills they have been refining over their three years in our debate program.
In the afternoon, the competition shifted to three impromptu rounds, with motions ranging from housing policy to the impact of online retail. The ability to think critically and respond persuasively under time pressure is no small feat, and both students rose to the challenge with poise and maturity.
Ruari’s exceptional performance earned her 7th place in overall speaker scores, and we are thrilled to share that both Ruari and Sokha have qualified to attend Junior Nationals in Winnipeg this May.
We are incredibly proud of their dedication, growth, and the way they represented King’s-Edgehill with integrity and excellence. Congratulations, Ruari and Sokha!
