Junior School Science Fair — Issue 21

This week, KES Junior School students showcased their creativity, curiosity, and scientific thinking at our annual Junior School Science Fair. This year’s fair featured an impressive range of projects, exploring topics such as fungi capable of digesting plastics, quantum mechanics, fire-retardant materials, digestive system health, spherification in culinary science, genetic modification, and much more. Students shared their findings with confidence and enthusiasm, engaging judges, fellow students, and visitors throughout the event.
 
In the Grades 6–7 category, honourable mentions were awarded to Fia Strum ‘31, Logan Edgecombe ‘31, Sophia Saleh ‘31, Sharon Gold ‘32, Elaura Scotney ‘32, Avery MacNeil ‘32, and Finlay Barnett ‘31 for their thoughtful research and strong presentations. The top awards in this category went to James Grant in third place, Mila Deveau ‘32 in second place, and Iris Sharmaguo ‘32, who earned first place with an outstanding project that impressed all the judges.
 
In the Grade 8 category, the judges recognized the excellent work of Ollie Boyle ‘30, Thomas Warford ‘30, Ocean Porter ‘30, Ben Woo ‘30, Caleb DeCoste ‘30, Sokha Ebert ‘30, Clelya Debeaumont ‘30, Victoria Walsh ‘30, Laura Napier-Whale ‘30, and Alvaro De Murga Liebanas ’30 with honourable mentions. Third place was awarded to Alexa Scothorn ‘30, second place to Farrah Webber ‘30, and first place to Spencer Armstrong ‘30, whose project demonstrated both depth of understanding and exceptional presentation skills.
 
In the Grade 9 category, honourable mentions went to Zoe Oniah ‘29, Altynbek Hood ‘29, Sophie Rideout ‘29, Marlowe Lister-Wade ‘29, Shylah Parsons ‘29, Hunter Rodgers ‘29, Ruari Ryan, Jack Shearer, Matipa Simbanegavi, Noah Bonilla, Lincoln Cho, and Paola Plasencia Albarrán ‘29. Third place was awarded to Declan Rosborough ‘29, and second place went to Prarthana Rammohanprabhu ‘29 for her excellent work. First place was earned by Willoughby Larder ‘29, whose demonstrations of a levitating oil droplet and the famous double-slit experiment showcased both creativity and remarkable scientific insight.
 
A number of students were also selected by the judges to represent King’s-Edgehill School at the upcoming Regional Science Fair. These students are Spencer Armstrong ‘30, Willoughby Larder ‘29, Lincoln Cho ‘29, Declan Rosborough ‘29, Prarthana Rammohanprabhu ‘29, Laura Napier-Whale ‘30, Farrah Webber ‘30, James Grant ‘32, Mila Deveau ‘32, Iris Sharmaguo ‘32, and Sharon Gold ’32.
 
All of the students who participated in this year’s Junior School Science Fair should be extremely proud of their accomplishments. Their creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to scientific inquiry were evident and clearly communicated, making this year’s event both inspiring and memorable. Well done, everyone!
