From Grades 6 through 12, King’s-Edgehill School students may study and perform in all genres. The classics may give way to classic rock, and jazz may be followed by a popular movie theme song. Most of all, expert instruction and exposure to music and musical instruments characterizes our music department. Led by a professional musician Jeff Smith, the Music programme at King’s-Edgehill School is not only fun but award winning. Annual band trips to such places as New York, Disneyworld, Cuba, or Mexico, have been rewarding for the students and gratifying as inevitably they place very highly in competitions and festivals.
Students who wish instruction outside of class will discover that professional instruction is available every day in all instruments including piano, violin, percussion, guitar, and voice. Regular “coffeehouses” create great school spirit, but also provide a fun evening that showcases student (and staff!) talent in a non-intimidating environment.
The Cadet Corps Band also provides music students with leadership and performance opportunities throughout the school year. Annual events including Remembrance Day, the Sunset Ceremony, the Annual Inspection Weekend, require that the band perform publically and, quite frequently, while marching.
