A Simpler Time
King’s-Edgehill School is proud to introduce its fourth Senior School play production, A Simpler Time, which brings together a group of passionate and dedicated students from Grades 10-12.
A Simpler Time is a collection of short comedies that is presented to you through the wonderful world of time travel. In an hour and a half, you will follow the lives of teenagers Marley, Chris, and Taylor who are desperately looking for a break from their chaotic, modern lives. With the world’s problems weighing heavily on their shoulders, they prepare to use a time machine to find “a simpler time”. They jump from a common household in the medieval ages, to a busy switchboard in the 1940s, and they even find themselves caught up in the future! A Simpler Time is brought to you by enthusiastic and spirited students who are bursting with bright talent.
In preparation for their shows on April 12 and 13, we are excited to present three members of our gifted cast and crew in the weekly newsletter to give you a sneak peek of the incredible talent you can expect to see! We hope you will support them by attending our performances in the spring.
Gretchen Archibald ‘24
This is Gretchen’s second year at King’s-Edgehill and her fifth theatrical production here. At the beginning of the school year, she was the title character of our Senior School musical, Matilda. She is the Executive Council Head of the Dance Committee, leading the team that makes sure all of our school dances are beautifully decorated. Additionally, Gretchen is a member of the school choir and the Band Sergeant Major in our 254 Mill Band. Outside of KES, she has been a consistent member of Quick As A Wink productions for many years, including this winter’s production of The Prom. One of her favourite things about theatre is how everyone is pushed to try new things and do their best. Break a leg, Gretchen!
Bryan Ma ‘24
Bryan is in his second and last year at King’s-Edgehill. He has been a consistent help in the tech booth and is trying out acting this spring as Dr. Cornwallis. As well as acting, he will be helping backstage, reprising his role in the tech booth mixing sound, and doing microphone checks. Outside of the theatre, Bryan loves music, he is in choir, and jazz band, and is the Drumline Warrant Officer in cadets. He is also a dedicated and hardworking member of the KES robotics team and makes time to come to Improv Club every week. Bryan would recommend that people get involved in the arts because there’s something for everyone, and everyone can be an artist. Thank you, Bryan!
Samantha Mayer ‘24
Samantha is in her third and final year at KES. In her time here, Sammee has contributed greatly to the worlds of theatre and cadets. Sammee made her debut in her tenth-grade play, Clue, and continues her theatrical efforts playing two roles in A Simpler Time. She stretches her extracurricular activity outside of just theatre, she is also a highly active member of yearbook, improv, and the debate team. Last year, Sammee was part of the group that wrote a play and performed it at DramaFest at Dalhousie University. She leads parades as the Drum Major of our 254 KES Highland Cadet Corps, which she says is an honour she is proud to be trusted with. Sammee is a well-rounded and involved member of the KES community and says she looks forward to being a part of this year’s Senior School play. Good luck, Sammee!
