KES Prep Girls finish 3rd in their pool at first Prep Tournament in Toronto

Our third game of the Centennial Colts Classic was a tough affair, against Lincoln Prep out of Hamilton. The Huskies have won the last two Ontario Prep Championships, and reload every year with amazing talent. This years version of their team has players already committed to UCLA, UBC, Vermont, and a few other NCAA Universities. Our KES girls (all 8 of them playing in this game) hung tough and battled hard in the 1st quarter, ending the frame down 17-13. During the second quarter, the girls pulled to within 1 a couple of times, but Lincoln Prep was able to hold off any momentum we were trying to generate. A late run in the second quarter put Lincoln Prep up 36-26 at the break. The third quarter was where our hard work over the previous two games, with minimal healthy available players on our bench caught up with us. Lincoln Prep went on a 26-4 run, as our girls were trying to find another tank of physical and mental energy to draw from. Lincoln threw 15 players at us during the game, and in the end won by a convincing 79 – 44 margin. KES Prep ended the tournament 1 Win, 2 Losses, which earned a third place position in their pool, but fell short of moving on to the semi finals round. Still an very a respectable start to their season. The KES Girls Prep Basketball team as been praised publicly and privately by NCAA coaches, U Sport Coaches, and basketball media. One of the interviewers told me “no one knew what to expect from this private school team from Nova Scotia, but everyone was impressed by how hard the girls work, how much they like being around each other, and how well they carry themselves win or loss.” I can’t tell you how proud I am to hear that. The icing on the cake? Let’s just say, a couple of our girls who no one knew about (people forget about Nova Scotia), won't have to pay for their university careers, as scholarship offers and high interest indications have already been made, by major “brand name” NCAA schools, so we may see some our Alumni from our program playing in the NCAA Women’s March Madness on TV in the near future!
