Bounceback Win at Colt Classic in Ontario!

The evening session of the Centennial College Colts Classic Prep Girls Basketball Tournament presented an interesting match up with OSBA member Durham Elite from Whitby, Ontario. After losing Briar MacDonald to injury in the dying moments of the earlier game, KES was down to 7 players to go up against an 11 player team. The best description that was given to the game by one of the spectators, "even short staffed, those young players showed what Nova Scotia kids are made of..."

KES came ready to play and took a 17-14 lead after the frist quarter, Heavyn Beals and Rachel Higgins both made important 3 pointers, combined with some exceptional hard work on the defensive end by Sam Nelson to help the Windsor side to the lead. The second quarter was a back and forth affair, culminating with Durham making an almost half court shot for 3 at the buzzer to cut the KES lead to 31-29. The break came at the perfect time, for KES to regroup, and refocus on the important execution that earned them the lead, and the hard work continued to help our side to a 44-39 lead heading into the 4th Quarter. Both teams fought hard and the coaches on the KES worked fevourishly to keep the girls focused down the stretch where the KES kids, buoyed by the great number of parents who made the trip, pulled out a 53-45 Win! Mackenzie Smith lead the team with 24 points, and showed strong leadership in this crucial game for the team.

Tommorow is the culmination of our weekend of games here in Toronto, with a 430pm EST matchup with #5 Nationally Ranked Lincoln Prep, whose leader Bryn Maskavitch has committed to play for the UCLA Bruins next year in university. An interesting experience for our girls is ahead!
