Isaiah 43:19, “See, I am doing a new thing!”
Dear KES Community,
Next week marks the beginning of a new chapter for both our school community and me, as I step into the role of School Chaplain. New beginnings are always filled with both excitement and responsibility, and Scripture reminds us that God is always doing something fresh in our lives. Just as God continually works in us, this ministry begins with the hope and promise that He will guide every step.
The role of a Chaplain in a school setting is a special calling. Throughout the journey to this day, this calling has been spiritually affirmed and shared by many. It is more than leading prayers or organizing chapel services: it is about walking alongside students, staff, and families as we journey together in faith and more importantly when we are stuck in the metaphorical mud. A Chaplain is here to listen, encourage, guide, and remind our community of God’s presence in both our challenges and our celebrations. Walking with you in love and charity is the heartbeat of chaplaincy even during the muddiest of times, and it is a way of life I carry with a humble heart.
Many of you have heard me say that spiritual health is as important as physical and mental health. Just as we need nourishment for our bodies and knowledge for our minds, we also need the strength and peace that comes from a close relationship with our Faith. Our spiritual life influences how we think, how we treat others, and how we see the world. By tending to our spiritual health, we grow in love, patience, and wisdom. We are fortunate to be in an environment at King’s-Edgehill where this significance is realized.
As a school, we are one body. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12:12, “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” Each student, teacher, and staff member is an essential part of this community. What we do—whether in the classroom, on the turf, or in times of worship—matters in the eyes of God. When one part of the body is lifted, we are all strengthened; when one-part struggles, we are called to support and pray for them.
This ministry is not just mine alone, it is our ministry together. As we move forward in this ministry together, may we remember that our school is not just a place of learning but also a place of growing in love and with the Spirit. Every lesson taught, every prayer whispered, every act of kindness shared is part of our witness to God. Let us embrace this new beginning with faith and unity, trusting that God will use our community for His glory.
Let’s walk together in faith, support one another, and trust that God will bless this new beginning.
In Peace,
Madre Greer
The Celebration of New Ministry will be held in the Fountain Performing Arts Centre at King's-Egehill School, on Monday, September 29, at 2:30 pm.
