Clash of the Classics: KES Readers Take on a New Challenge — Issue 25
Three enthusiastic readers—Adya ’27, Royal ’26, and Sophia ’26—recently represented King’s-Edgehill School at the inaugural Clash of the Classics competition hosted at King’s College in Halifax by King’s College and Armbrae Academy.
In preparation for the event, the trio worked together to read ten classic books, diving into stories including Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen, King Lear by William Shakespeare, and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. Their hard work led to a lively day of trivia, where they faced questions testing both memory and teamwork.
Participants also attended a mini lecture on one of the books, Wu Cheng’en’sThe Monkey King: Journey to the West, a Ming Dynasty-era mythological text originating from China.
Although the team did not place, they walked away with a shared sense of accomplishment and the joy of meeting fellow readers from schools across the region. The atmosphere buzzed with book discussions, friendly rivalries, and encouragement from peers and organizers alike.
Most importantly, Adya, Royal, and Sophia demonstrated curiosity, dedication, and Highlander spirit from start to finish. Special thanks also go to Ari ’26, Max ’27, and Ms. Melody Hopkins for their support in making the event a success.
