Swimming Meet Recap - AAA AGD LCM #2 Invitational Swim Meet — Issue 24

This past weekend, five of our top Highlander swimmers headed to Dalplex to compete in the catchily named AAA AGD LCM #2 Invitational swim meet. This was the final tune-up meet before the AAA and AA Winter Championships, which will be held at Dalplex from March 6–8. The meet marked the end of our heaviest training phase, which was reflected in the—expected—lower number of personal best performances.

Leading the charge with the most personal bests was Highlander rookie Cole Corkum ’27. Competing in five events, Cole finished in the top 10 in all of them, earning one medal and four lifetime best swims. The sprint specialist improved in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, and 50m freestyle. The one event in which he did not record a personal best was also the race in which he captured a bronze medal—proof that even when he is not at his best, he is still fast.

Fellow rookie Jude Levangie ’32 raced three events and earned personal bests in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly. Jude also swam the 400m freestyle for the first time in a long-course pool, making that performance technically a best time as well. It is also worth noting that his strong play as a Junior School basketball athlete is clearly not slowing him down in the pool.

Harvey Hadley ’27 came close to his fastest swims and earned two gold medals with victories in the 200m freestyle and 50m freestyle, along with a silver medal in the 400m freestyle.

Emery Endres ’28 had a solid meet, recording a personal best in the 50m butterfly while swimming close to her best times in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke. Emery enjoys most water sports—even when the water takes the form of snow while alpine racing for KES. She is now two-for-two in her alpine races this season, including one victory where she finished first overall among both girls and boys.

Lillian Blois ’27 also had a strong day of racing in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, and 100m breaststroke. This past week has been challenging for many of our day student swimmers in getting to the pool, but undaunted and dedicated, Lillian requested practices and completed them independently at the East Hants Aquatic Centre. Those are the actions that lead to improvement.
