Our school community recently enjoyed a joyful celebration of culture, creativity, and connection at our annual student-led Cultural Fair. This day continues to be a highlight of the year.
The festivities began with a vibrant Food Fair, where students warmly welcomed classmates, faculty, and staff to experience their cultural heritage through food. Twelve countries were represented, each offering delicious homemade dishes and sharing the stories behind them. The irresistible aromas drifting across campus drew crowds eager to sample the rich and diverse flavours that make our community so special.
In the afternoon, the entire school gathered to celebrate culture through the arts. Performances showcased the incredible talent of our students and the diversity of traditions they represent. Our Grade 9 and 10 bands, led by Mr. Simonar, honoured African Heritage Month with works by Black artists. The Dance Team, led by Ms. Stephanie Cummings, energized the audience with a lively routine. Cavan Xiong ‘27 performed a beautiful song in Chinese, and Jasmine Zhu ‘26 delighted the crowd with a moving violin piece. Nigerian dance performances brought infectious energy to the stage, a classic Mariachi song celebrated Mexican culture, and LB Fisher ‘26 shared a powerful song of hope rooted in Mi’kmaq tradition. Our engaging MCs, Fedora Asoh ‘27 and Julien Gingras ‘26, kept the audience smiling with their humour and a spirited flag challenge that had the whole school participating.
This special day was made possible by the dedication of our student leaders. The International Committee, led by Head Council members Inyong Hwang ‘26 and Sara-Senior Smith 26, collaborated with the Arts Council, led by Head Council member LB Fisher ‘26, to organize the event. Over the course of a month, they coordinated sign-ups, shared information, and worked closely with teachers to bring the celebration to life.
We also extend heartfelt thanks to our Cafeteria staff, our Facilities team, and the faculty and staff who supported students throughout the process.
Ms. Karen Jones, Director of Arts, and Ms. Christine McIsaac, ELL Coordinator, are incredibly proud of the students’ leadership, creativity, and teamwork in making this day such a meaningful celebration for our school community.
