Youth in Service Council – Year of Service — Issue 16

This year, the Youth in Service Council turned ideas into action. Through student leadership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to service, we organized a series of initiatives that brought our School community together while supporting causes that matter.

We began the year in October with a Food Drive in recognition of Thanksgiving. As students, we wanted to focus on gratitude by giving back to those facing food insecurity. Donation bins were set up around the School, and students worked together to encourage contributions of non-perishable food items. The response from the School community was generous, and the drive set a strong foundation for the rest of the year.

In November, the Council hosted a Bake Sale in honour of Remembrance Day, with proceeds supporting homeless veterans. Students baked, organized, and ran the event, turning a simple fundraiser into an opportunity to raise both funds and awareness. The bake sale reflected our goal of using student-led initiatives to recognize important causes while building leadership and teamwork.

To end the year, we organized a Toy Drive in December to support children and families during the holiday season. Donation bins were once again placed around the School, and students helped spread the word to maximize participation. The generosity shown by students and staff helped make the holidays a little brighter for families in need.

Together, these initiatives represent what the Youth in Service Council stands for: students leading with purpose, compassion, and initiative. We are proud of what we accomplished this year and thankful to everyone who supported our efforts. As we move forward, we look forward to continuing our work and finding new ways to make a positive impact in our community.
