King’s-Edgehill Girls’ Hockey Alumni Face Off in Germany — Issue 14
Two of the most impactful King’s-Edgehill School hockey players of the past decade, defenceman Maddy Walsh ’19 and goalie Lena Falkenberger ’24, recently squared off in Berlin, Germany. They are playing in Germany’s top league, the DFEL, where Falkenberger’s Memmingen team travelled to Berlin for a pair of games against Walsh’s Eisbären Berlin team on November 29 and 30.
Maddy Walsh’s route to the highest level of German hockey included a successful U Sports hockey career. The Hammonds Plains native played four years at KES before joining the national powerhouse University of Toronto Varsity Blues. After graduating from the University of Toronto, she moved to Brock University to pursue graduate work. She wrapped up her U Sports hockey career as a Brock Badger, where she was a dominant player and an OUA all-star defenceman.
Lena Falkenberger returned to her native Germany for university studies after her senior season with the Highlanders, where she posted an impressive 1.15 goals-against average. In her first season in Germany, she played with Augsburger in the DNL Under-20 League before advancing to Germany’s highest league for the current 2025–26 season.
The two teams will meet again in January, when Walsh and her Berlin team will try to avenge their losses to Memmingen in the first meeting between these outstanding KES alumni.
