Last week, King’s-Edgehill School students lit up the Fountain Performing Arts Centre with a joyful, polished, and wonderfully funny production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Audiences across all performances offered rave reviews, praising the students’ comedic timing, strong vocals, and vibrant stage presence. This show is remarkable for how many substantial roles it offers, and our students rose brilliantly to the challenge.
The production showcased standout performances from Skye Hussey '26 as Janet, bringing powerhouse vocals and charm; William Larder '26 as the Man in Chair, whose wit and warmth anchored the entire show; Harlo Young '28 as the Drowsy Chaperone, delivering comedic brilliance and vocal skill; Willoughby Larder '29 as George, full of energy and precision; Ashton Houghton '26 as Robert, whose tap work and singing captivated audiences; Ari Schwarz Lomeli '26 as Aldolpho, delighting the crowd with flamboyant flair; Charlotte Purcocks '27 as Kitty, lighting up the stage with comedic sparkle; Alfred Smith III '27 as Feldzieg, balancing humour and authority; and Adaure Ojinere '26 and Destiny States '26 as the pastry chefs, who added both humour and musicality to every scene they touched.
The ensemble, too, deserves enormous praise. Their dancing, harmonies, and commitment to character brought the world of the musical to life and supported the entire show with remarkable professionalism.
Behind the scenes, a skilled faculty team supported the students throughout the process. Special thanks to Karen Jones (set design), Stephanie Fillman (vocal direction), Kevin Simonar (pit band direction), and Toven MacLean (director) for their guidance and expertise.
A heartfelt thank you as well to the many volunteers and helpers whose work backstage, front of house, and throughout the rehearsal process made this production possible.
Congratulations to all involved in delivering such a joyful and memorable run of The Drowsy Chaperone!
