The opportunities for cadets at King’s-Edgehill School are plentiful. This past weekend, five cadets took a trip away to Camp Aldershot for the multi–cadet corps Army Cadet Skills Weekend. This was held in North Kentville from Friday evening to noon on Sunday.
Cadets travelled in from Annapolis Royal, Bridgetown, Bridgewater, Kentville, Weymouth, Windsor, and Yarmouth to have a weekend of fun and learning. Subjects taught were GPS navigation, reading a map, and learning how to use a compass.
Attending were Sergeant Hyatt Endres ’28, Ari Schwartz Lomeli ’26, Ania Casado ’29, Prarthana Rammohanprabhu ’29, and Gabe Skafte ’30. Hyatt, who has summer camp experience on the Drill and Ceremonial Instructor Course and holds the rank of Sergeant, found quickly that his new first name was now “Sergeant.” In the cadet program, cadets are addressed by rank and last name. When Hyatt asked any questions to his fellow cadets, he received a loud “Yes, Sergeant!” or “No, Sergeant!”
When they were ready to depart after lunch on Sunday, all five cadets had a cheerful, enthusiastic demeanour. They joked around as if they had been friends for life.
It felt really great to have such a fantastic group of kids who had just completed a weekend of activities they’ll remember for quite some time. Even more importantly, it was the start of friendship that is sure to last even longer.
Did everyone have a great weekend? If Hyatt were to ask that question, no doubt he would be greeted with a resounding, “Yes, Sergeant!”
