This fall, the Marksmanship Team has been diligently training for the Nova Scotia Southern Zone Marksmanship Competition. This was held at Camp Aldershot, with cadets from the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Cadet Corps representing their cadet corps and School with pride. They competed against 18 teams from the zone, which continues to grow each year.
The day began with an early morning departure on the cadet bus from King’s-Edgehill School. Once they arrived at Camp Aldershot in North Kentville, they sighted in their air rifles. Then, team members shot two prone (lying down) targets in the morning and one standing-position target in the afternoon. Each cadet put forth their best effort, with an excellent result being the outcome of strong individual scores.
Cadet WO Lillian Blois ’27, WO Emery Endres ’28, WO Rowan Francis ’27, Sgt Hyatt Endres ’28, and Cpl Ewan Shaw ’30 comprised the team. Yuxiang Su ’27 did a superb job serving as cadet coach.
Warrant Officer Lillian Blois was one of two members on the team to achieve a top-ten overall finish, coming in at eighth place overall. Ewan Shaw, who is in Grade 8, is in his first year on the marksmanship team and brought his high level of enthusiasm to the competition. WO Rowan Francis returns for back-to-back competitions, and Sgt Hyatt Endres is in his first.
Warrant Officer Emery Endres delivered the standout performance of the day with a third-place finish in the competition. She finished only a mere three points out of first place. As good as Emery is competing in prone shooting, she is equally good, if not better, in standing-position targets.
We congratulate the Marksmanship Team for their hard work, dedication, and impressive results. Their commitment to marksmanship training has paid off, and they have proudly represented the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Highland Cadet Corps in the annual zone competition.
