King’s-Edgehill School is proud to present The Drowsy Chaperone! — Issue 12

The Drowsy Chaperone is a clever, side-splitting musical comedy that affectionately parodies the classic Broadway shows of the 1920s. The story unfolds in the apartment of a lonely musical theatre fan, known simply as “Man in Chair,” who decides to play his favourite record: the cast album of a fictional 1928 musical called The Drowsy Chaperone. As the record spins, the glamorous world of the show comes to life around him, complete with eccentric characters, catchy Jazz Age numbers, and a chaotic wedding weekend gone awry. With gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, a bumbling best man, and a tipsy chaperone who can’t resist the bottle, hilarity ensues at every turn. Both a loving tribute and a playful spoof, The Drowsy Chaperone captures the magic, absurdity, and pure joy of musical theatre.

Though this is officially the Senior School musical, there is a great deal of enthusiasm and involvement from the Junior School this year as well. This energetic cast and crew have been working hard since the first week of school to bring this hilarious show to life for audiences.

This week, we would like to put the spotlight on a few of our participants:

No stranger to the KES stage, in her Grade 12 year, Skye Hussey ’26 brings exceptional presence and polish to her leading role as Janet Van de Graaff in The Drowsy Chaperone, the glamorous starlet caught between fame and true love. Her strong vocals, expressive acting, and natural stage charisma make her performance both engaging and memorable. Audiences can look forward to a confident, captivating portrayal that balances elegance, humour, and heartfelt emotion. Skye’s commitment to the role shines through in every scene, and her performance is sure to be a highlight of the production.

Following her past memorable performances such as Miss Hannigan in Annie Jr. and Winifred Banks in Mary Poppins Jr., Harlo Young ’28 is shining brightly in her first leading role in a Senior School musical. She brings depth, warmth, and dry humour to the title role in The Drowsy Chaperone — a glamorous, wisecracking mentor whose love of martinis and perfectly timed advice shape the story’s twists and turns. With a poised stage presence and expressive delivery, she captures the character’s elegance and comedy in equal measure. Audiences can look forward to a confident and engaging performance that balances wit and charm, as well as impressive vocals. Harlo’s performance is sure to be memorable.

Will Larder ’26 brings charm, wit, and a touch of dry humour to his role as the Man in the Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone, guiding audiences through the show-within-a-show with insight and theatrical flair. His engaging narration and impeccable timing make every line memorable, drawing viewers into both the story and the world of classic Broadway musicals. As a Grade 12 student who has been passionate about theatre arts during his time at KES, Will consistently delivers impressive, polished performances that showcase his love for the stage. Audiences can expect a captivating, entertaining, and highly memorable portrayal that anchors the entire production.
