Girls Hockey Sobeys Cup Champions — Issue 9

The girls travelled to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, last weekend for the Sobeys Cup. For the second straight season, the girls finished the Sobeys Cup with a 5–0 record, including a 3–1 victory in Sunday’s championship game.

The Highlanders opened the weekend on Friday with a 4–1 win over the Northern Subway Selects and a 3–1 win over The Mount Academy. On Saturday, the Highlanders continued to roll with a 6–0 win over the Eastern Icebreakers from Newfoundland and a 3–1 win over the Cape Breton Lynx.

Securing a bye to Sunday’s final, the Highlanders waited to see who their opponent would be, as they were set to face the winner of the Northern Subway Selects and the Cape Breton Lynx. The girls spent the morning enjoying a walk through Victoria Park in Truro.

The championship game was a rematch from Saturday night: King’s-Edgehill School Highlanders vs. Cape Breton Lynx. The Highlanders jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Alison MacLean ’27. They increased the lead to 2–0 after Brooklyn Jefford ’26 beat the Lynx goalie with a great shot on the power play. The Lynx brought the game back to 2–1 with a power-play goal late in the second period. Bella Jack ’27 scored the insurance marker midway through the third to help secure the championship for the Highlanders with a 3–1 victory. Lily Williams ’27 was awarded player of the game as she came up with many key saves en route to the win.

All Highlanders were responsible for the win and should be proud of their efforts in becoming champions for back-to-back seasons. It is always a major accomplishment to bring a banner back to campus!
