Swim Recap - Nova Tech Aqua Kids #1 South Swim Meet at Université Sainte-Anne — Issue 9

On Sunday, October 19, KES swimming rookies Elaura Scotney ’32 and Leela Ebert ’32 attended the Nova Tech Aqua Kids #1 South Swim Meet at Université Sainte-Anne in Church Point. After swimming four to five times per week since the beginning of September, these two Highlanders were eager to show everyone just how fast they could race.

The meet began with the 100m individual medley, which consists of 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, and finishes with 25m freestyle. Elaura had a great swim, finishing with a personal best and missing her AA qualifying time by just over a second in this nearly two-minute-long event, placing 10th. She then swam a trio of freestyle events: 50m free (5th), 200m free (4th), and 100m free (3rd). Not only did Elaura improve her placing in each successive race, but each swim was also a personal best, and her 200m free smashed the AA qualifying time by seven seconds.

Leela also swam the 100m individual medley, 50m free, 200m free, and 100m free. She was particularly strong in her 100m and 200m freestyle events, setting new personal bests in both. Leela cracked the top 10 in two impressive efforts, placing 9th in her 50m free and 6th in her 100m free.

Leela and Elaura will next compete at the Nova Tech Aqua Kids #2 South Swim Meet in Greenwood on December 7. Between now and then, they’ll swim about 100 laps a day as they continue to improve their style, stamina, and speed.
