Junior Robotics Team Competes in Montreal

Last week, three of our junior robotics students – Spencer Armstrong ’30, Ollie Boyle ‘30, and Duncan Grant ‘30 – traveled to Montreal to compete in the WRO Mars Mission Junior Challenge, hosted by Zone01 Robotics. This exciting event required teams to program autonomous robots to complete space-exploration-themed missions on a simulated Martian surface.

The team placed second out of four competing teams, and more importantly, earned a high enough score to qualify for the national competition, should they choose to participate. Zone01 Robotics, which manages Canada’s participation in the World Robot Olympiad, selects national qualifiers based on performances across regional events held in Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia.

This competition was a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain hands-on experience, collaborate under pressure, and see how their skills stack up on a broader stage. I'm proud of their hard work, creativity, and the professionalism they brought to the event. It’s been exciting to see how much they’ve grown as young engineers, and I look forward to watching them continue to develop their skills in the years to come.
