English and Music Teacher ( 12-Month Contract)

About Our Opportunity

We are seeking an energetic and dedicated full-time (1.0 FTE) English and Music Teacher to join our Junior School for a 12-month maternity leave replacement.
 
As a Junior School Teacher at KES, you will be part of an inclusive, close-knit community that values collaboration, innovation, and student-centered learning. You’ll teach English and Music, with some Healthy Living and will be encouraged to explore creative approaches in your teaching and supported in putting new ideas into practice. Beyond the classroom, you will play an active role in all aspects of school life, from coaching athletics, leading choir, supporting school musicals, and accompanying students on trips and activities.
Primary Responsibilities

In addition to class preparation and classroom teaching, all teachers are responsible for:
  • Collaboratively designing curriculum and aligning curriculum with department goals and the School's mission
  • Developing culturally relevant, inclusive, and responsive curriculum for diverse learners
  • Integrating innovation and new technologies into learning
  • Conducting formative and summative student assessments
  • Grading student work and providing feedback in a timely manner
  • Communicating information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings
  • Holding one-on-one student meetings and regular tutorial periods
  • Attending all assigned faculty and committee meetings
  • Acting as an Advisor to a small group of students
  • Participating fully in all aspects of KES school life- including coaching sports, supporting arts programing, attending and chaperoning school assemblies and events, and partaking in regular teacher duty rotation
 
The Ideal Candidate
  • Holds a valid Teacher’s Certification or equivalent with training or specialization in English and Music
  • Has experience and passion for teaching English and Music at the middle school level
  • Clear knowledge of choral, instrumental, and conducting
  • Brings strong vocal experience, with the ability to lead the School choir and support School musical productions
  • Demonstrates commitment to collaboration and teamwork, and diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Has a growth mindset, sense of humor, and excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Enjoys wearing many hats
  • Is enthusiastic about contributing to student life both inside and outside the classroom
