KES Wrestlers win 9 Medals at Metro Wrestling Championships
The junior boys’ team led the KES results placing 2nd overall, only 3 points out of first place. With 5 juniors, led by gold medal results from Nathan Danquah, Alex Otto, Tristan Parker and Tommy Xu. Unfortunately, Tommy did not have anyone in his weight class in this his first competition. With more wrestlers in a weight class, more team points are possible. Nathan led the way, for the juniors, with three big wins and a more determined mental attitude on the mat, to match his physical prowess.
Ross Traves led the senior team with the best match of the day, in a re-match with his opponent from Sackville in the 63 kg class, who he lost to in the final to at our home tournament in January. Ross won by superiority by spreading the gap to 10 points, after appearing to pin his opponent midway through the first round. It was a hard fought match by both wrestlers. Ross is just between the 58 kg class and the 63 kg class. He will have to decide where he wishes to wrestle at the Regional Championships this weekend, where he will try to qualify top four, in order to advance to provincials the following weekend.
Other medalists over the weekend were Ky and Christina with silver, and bronze medals to Tim and Alex Ondo. We look forward to having two of our senior wrestlers back from injury to fill two weight classes in the senior boys’ category for regionals. Brian and Jack will fill the 69 and 74 kg weight classes respectively. Regional Championships will be hosted at Forest Heights on Saturday, February 28th.
