This year’s Senior School play is the Shakespearean comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Through physical comedy and strong characters, this performance promises to be a memorable one. Our cast has been perfecting their movement, expression, and stage presence to deliver the energy and absurdity of this wild show in a way that reflects their dedication to bringing the work to life. Through coordination among cast members, their humour and craft are elevated, creating something truly remarkable.
This past week, our cast has been working on physical comedy to highlight the ridiculousness of the plot’s events. In particular, they have been delivering this comedy fully in character, as individuals immersed in the world Shakespeare has created, reacting sincerely rather than ironically to heighten the authenticity of the humour. In doing so, students have been refining their timing and sharpening their awareness of one another on stage, ensuring that each exaggerated reaction and dramatic reveal lands with intention.
Now, we would like to introduce you to some of the dedicated individuals helping make A Midsummer Night’s Dream such a lively and memorable show.
Say hello to Adya Pejcelová ’27, a boarding student from the Czech Republic in their second year at King’s-Edgehill School. Adya has been involved in many forms of art, including piano and violin, as a way of channelling their energy and creativity. Through their experience in the play this year and last year, they discovered the enjoyment of portraying characters through theatre and the joy of working with castmates. When asked if they would recommend the arts to others, Adya says, “I think that everyone has a place in art, and there are so many things to choose from as well – I know I’ve tried way too many art forms myself, if there’s even such a thing (dance, writing, painting, you name it – I probably did it in fourth grade and never again). Anyways, reminder that it’s always good to experiment with what makes you happy!” Adya has had an amazing time working with scene partners Cavan, Tammy, Ari, LB, and Lauren and hopes the audience has a blast when they see the show.
Take a look at Max Proctor ’27, a boarding student from Prince Edward Island in his third year at King’s-Edgehill School. Max’s interest in the works of Shakespeare and his enjoyment of school musicals led him to join this production. His inspiration stems from watching the Senior School musical in 2023. He loves seeing how his castmates engage with the theatrical arts, and his favourite part of rehearsals is the surge of energy during warm-ups and team-building exercises. Max encourages others to explore the arts, as he believes artistic expression is uniquely human and something to be valued. When asked if he would like to share anything with the community, Max said, “Everyone should go out to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A lot of people are working hard on it!”
As rehearsals continue, the cast’s growing confidence in theatrical expression, character immersion, and stage presence makes the scenes feel increasingly cohesive, dynamic, and delightfully chaotic. We hope you will join us April 9–11 to see the results of their work.
