Mexican Independence Day Celebration at KES — Issue 3
This year, Mexican Independence Day was celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Mexicans around the globe celebrate Independence Day, also known as El Grito, because it is the day when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla launched the revolution that led to Spain’s departure from Mexico. There are parades, parties, and everyone hollers, “¡Viva México!” three times after the ringing of the bell at the National Palace. Families and friends gather to enjoy traditional dishes. This year at KES, we made chicken tacos and guacamole. “¡Viva México!”
Thank you to Royal Akinboro '26, Igho Aigbe '26, Sara Senior-Smith '26, and Adaure Ojinere '26 for helping with the set-up and preparation of the guacamole, and to Roman Brake '26 and Ari Lorde '28, who helped with the cooking.
