Meet the Cast and Crew of Puffs: Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic

King’s-Edgehill School is proud to present Puffs: Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic as this year’s Senior School play production.


From acting to backstage crew, we will be highlighting and introducing some of the students involved in our production as the weeks unfold. We will be interviewing people that are part of the cast and crew to share their thoughts on their responsibilities with the show, their experience with the performing arts, and the importance of arts in their everyday lives! We hope you will consider supporting this dedicated team of staff and students by attending this production! You can look forward to these performances which debut April 20-22, 2023.

 

For the next few weeks, we will be highlighting some of our graduating students who have put endless amounts of time and effort into the arts program at KES.

 

This week we will be highlighting Maeve Hurley ‘23, Qiaoman Tracey ‘23, and Sean Hurley ‘23.

 

Maeve is in Grade 12, her third year at King’s-Edgehill School. Although she grew up in Texas, she currently lives in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Puffs will be her fifth production with KES, and her fourth time backstage. She has had a lot of fun and enjoys the bonds she’s made through the arts. This fall, she made her debut as backstage manager for The Little Mermaid and recommends that others participate in the arts because of how many different talents are required to make a production shine. Maeve has found that being part of the backstage crew has improved her management and problem-solving skills. As a fan of the magical, wizarding movies, she is looking forward to seeing how her friends bring the (completely unrelated) world of Puffs to life. Thank you, Maeve!  

 

Qiao is originally from China and is currently in Grade 12. She has been at King’s-Edgehill for seven years and has been involved in seven productions during this time. She likes to participate in plays but also enjoys singing, dancing, and helping backstage. Qiao enjoys the friendships made during theatrical productions, as well as the variety of talents needed to bring a production together. She was first introduced to theatre when she took part in Aladdin Jr. As well as theatre, Qiao has taken lessons in piano, bagpipes, guitar, clarinet, and recorder. As this year’s tech manager, Qiao knows that even those who are more comfortable with technology than the arts can find a place in theatre. Thank you, Qiao!  

 

Sean is from Houston, Texas, and is currently in Grade 12. This is his fourth and final year at KES. When asked why he chose to perform in the Senior School play, Sean said that he joined because he “likes the performing arts, and plays are really fun and enjoyable.” He first got into theatre in Grade 8, where he made lots of friends in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and has since acted in three more plays and two musicals. He can also be heard playing the bagpipes at events in and out of School. His favorite part of theatre is putting on a character and performing for an audience. Sean is looking forward to making people laugh with the ridiculousness of Puffs. He recommends that people join the arts if they want to, because they will become better at presenting and speaking in front of others and can gain creative problem-solving skills. This April, you will be able to see him onstage as Wayne Hopkins.
