Fifteen Junior and Senior School students took advantage of the beautiful weather during the Thanksgiving long weekend to travel to one of the most picturesque regions in the country. Our annual trip to Nova Scotia’s South Shore began with a stop in Lunenburg for a sightseeing trip on the Eastern Star schooner for a seaside view of the famous Ovens Natural Park. The wind was high and the students had a great time, once they got accustomed to the extent to which the boat can safely heel over!
Our next stop was our hostel for dinner and then some downtime on our first night. Our accommodations were at an interesting spot in Port Mouton that was converted from an elementary school several years ago.
On Monday we headed to Cherry Hill Beach where we enjoyed perfect conditions, and we had the beach to ourselves for our surf lesson. The water was warm (the wet-suits helped!) and the waves were great for beginner surfers, many of whom stood up on their first try. We finished our time in the Port Mouton area with a campfire on the white sand of Carter’s Beach that night.
No trip to the South Shore would be complete without a stop in Mahone Bay where our students had lunch and bid farewell to that part of the province before returning to School.
A special thanks is due to chaperones Cynthia Verryn-Stuart, Emma Oehl, Wade Trider, and organizer Yvonne Pledger.
