254 Cadets in the Kitchen

This week #10 Platoon was introduced to the Joy of Cooking. Under the tutelage of Ms Angie Folker, one of our long-serving civilian instructors and KES teacher, our young cadets were introduced to the workings of a kitchen. They learned the basics of making a grocery list and working within a fixed budget. In addition, they received some great training on safe methods to handle food in a kitchen environment. Finally, onto the meat of the day (no pun intended) and off to the actual meal preparation. Our cadets made crepes. For those of you unfamiliar with this beautiful dish (the Commanding Officer’s favourite), it is a tasty, light pastry with a variety of fillings. Our cadets used whipping cream and some delicious fruit combinations. It is always a treat to visit the cooking class and sample the fare. Prepping these young people for the future when they have to grocery shop, maintain a budget, and cook the meal is very worthwhile. What a great day to be a cadet in the 254 kitchen.
