Inaugural Highlander Girls Hockey Classic

We were proud to host the inaugural KES Highlanders Girls Hockey Classic from October 1-3 at the West Hants Sports Complex. With an excellent variety of participants, we saw teams from Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and Cape Breton join our own girls prep team for an exciting five-team tournament.

After losing a competitive opening game to the Mount Hockey Academy U-18 team from PEI, we were forced to win our remaining games in order to advance to the championship game on Sunday. Led by the outstanding goaltending of Sophie Thomas ’22 and Sophie Thimot ’24 and the timely scoring heroics of Josie King ‘22 and Abby McCarthy ‘22, we accomplished our goal of winning all three remaining games, and we advanced to the championship game against the Mount Academy U-18 team.

The championship game was an extremely close, physical, and competitive match. Carrington George ‘23 opened the scoring for the Highlanders and the Mount Academy tied the game on a second period power play goal. The game remained tied through the third period and through overtime which led to a shoot-out to decide the champion. Mount Academy prevailed in the shoot-out to claim the first KES Highlanders Girls Hockey Classic title.

The coaching staff was extremely proud of the effort and competitiveness our team displayed throughout the tournament.
