The countdown is on! In nine days, we will be taking part in the Terry Fox “One Day. Your Way!” Run and raising money for innovative cancer research. Like last year, pandemic protocols mean that King’s-Edgehill will not be able to welcome the hundreds of participants to our campus for the annual Terry Fox Run. This year, Terry Fox Runs across Canada once again will be virtual, with participants designing and completing their own five-kilometer routes in their own neighbourhoods, “One Day. Your Way!”
The virtual run provides the unique opportunity for KES students, staff, families, friends, and alumni to reconnect and participate together, across the country and around the world. Who would have thought that last year’s distance event would shatter all previous fundraising efforts? Well, we did, surpassing our previous total by $10,000, and contributing over $27,000 to cancer research. I am hopeful that together we can keep this momentum going. On Sunday, September 19, I invite you to continue the Marathon of Hope that Terry Fox began years ago. You can inspire your family and friends to walk, run or cycle the route that you design, or just go solo and enjoy some meaningful outdoor recreation. All efforts are appreciated. Your creativity and participation can be shared through our KES social media platform. We love to receive your photos and share them with our community.
There is no better way to boost our collective spirit during COVID-19 than to get outside and do something positive for those who can’t. We all know someone who is struggling with a cancer diagnosis. What a wonderful way to show support and make a difference. If you cannot take part, a one-time donation toward cancer research would be appreciated greatly. Here’s a quick link to register
, donate or fundraise for our Windsor KES Run.
King’s-Edgehill School has hosted the Windsor Terry Fox Run for the past 36 years. During this time, we have raised over $320,000 for cancer research. Surely, we have made a difference; but we are not finished yet! We are proud at KES to continue to champion Terry Fox’s ideals of hope, determination, and perseverance in the fight against cancer. Terry once said, “Anything is possible if you try.” In fact, “try” is in the spelling of his name. Forty years after he began his Marathon of Hope, his legacy and inspiration live on. We can learn a lot from Terry Fox as we face the challenges of our time. It is amazing to think that a single spirit can create a world of hope.
I hope to see you virtually on Sunday, September 19!
