Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our Athletic Philosophy and School Mission Statement emphasizing gentleness and learning and dignity and respect.

For the Week of February 1st – February 7th
Senior Girl: Julia Field had an excellent January and early February in her development on our Prep Basketball team. An amazing teammate and an elite scholar, Julia has evolved into an elite level, 3-point shooter who leads our team in free throw percentage during training and routinely out shoots her teammates in competitive scenarios.  We are looking forward to seeing her compete the next time the Prep team plays. A deserving Highlander, congratulations, Julia!

Senior Boy: Nathan Carter - This past weekend Nathan led by example scoring 2 big goals in the KES boys’ victory over the Admirals hockey club. Nathan has been a leader both on and off the ice all season with his hard work and outgoing personality. Well done, Nathan!

Junior Boy: Colin Stephens - Not surprisingly, Colin Stephens stepped up for the Junior Boys’ Basketball team, leading them in all aspects of the game during recent competitions. Colin is a slashing scorer and an athletic rebounder. He makes us competitive every game and always draws the attention of the opposing team’s best defender. Congratulations, Colin!

Junior Girl: Ali MacLean - In our game this week against NKEC, Ali was all over the floor and her non-stop effort helped propel us to victory. Despite only being in the 6th Grade, Ali's speed and tenacity are noteworthy to anyone who watches our girls play. Her skills have been steadily improving, and she is becoming more and more confident on the floor. With many games still left on our schedule, we are excited to watch her continued progress. Well done, Ali!

For the Week of January 31st
Senior Girl:  Abby Wamboldt showed great leadership this weekend as we played our first games in over two months. She dominated both games with her speed and skill, while taking care of the defensive zone. On top of this, Abby scored our game-winning goal against the PENS with under a minute to go. Keep up the great work, Abby!

Senior Boy: Righo Etou - As team captain and perennial top performer, it is easy to take Righo’s exceptional talents and leadership for granted.  As a top scorer, defender, and rebounder, Righo’s on court accomplishments fill the stat sheet.  Equally important are those things that he does that are off the record, such as working hard in practice and getting the team ready for games.  While the KES Senior Boys’ Basketball team is two wins in two games into our rebirthed season, we all know that with Righo we will always be a respected team. Excellent work, Righo!
