“Hast du etwas Zeit für mich, dann singe ich ein Lied für dich.”

“Hast du etwas Zeit für mich, dann singe ich ein Lied für dich.”
– “Do you have a minute for me; if so, I will sing a song for you.“

We are soon going into our final week of Distance Learning at King’s-Edgehill School and many students are completing end-of-year projects for their classes. While our IB students did not write their IB exams this year, many of them worked hard on a final task that completed their two years of IB studies.

For German class, Ella Brown surprised us with a very special “Auf Wiedersehen” that will surely be remembered. She was enrolled in our German ab initio course for Grade 11 and 12, learning German from scratch. Together with her friend Radka Sevcik she rocked German class. The two girls not only always brought the most amazingly positive attitude to our small class but also proved to be excellent German bakers. Ella and Radka fell in love with the language and culture.

For her final project, Ella decided to not only sing a German song but also to create a full music video. She chose the 1980s pop song “99 Luftballons” by the German pop singer Nena. This song was not only popular in Germany but all around the world. Its popularity brought about the release of an English version a year after the original with the title “99 Red Balloons”. To this day, the song is famous across generations. The popularity of the song came from its political power due to its strong anti-war message during the Cold War.

We wanted to share this amazing video with our KES community. Thank you very much, Ella!
