Winter Carnival 2020 – A Snow Day to Remember

The stretching routines were implemented, weights were lifted furiously at the Athletic Centre and tight hamstrings were forced back into action. Was there an Olympiad coming around the corner? No. Something much more important. Snow had arrived in Windsor, and the Cadets of the 254 were ready for the 2020 Winter Carnival. This year proved to be a great event. The team of Cadets under the able leadership of the Drill Sergeant Major, Master Warrant Officer Duncan McLaughlin and his 2IC, Headquarters CQMS, Warrant Officer Evan Logan, ran like a well-oiled machine. Timings were bang on and the Cadets had fun. We had the pleasure this year of welcoming the faculty and staff of King’s-Edgehill School as they premiered their ‘Spirit Squad’. Lots of fire in the furnace of this group as they handily walked away with first place in the Swim Relay and the fabled Tug o’ War. As Mr Verryn-Stuart said, “We may not catch them, but we will pull them off their feet.” After a great day of competition, the inevitable showdown came to the Senior Day Girls and the Senior Day Boys. They went head to head in everything and played their hearts out. With a four-point margin, the Senior Day Boys edged out the Girls for the final victory and the cup. The School rounded out the day with the Headmaster’s Valentine’s Dinner and Dance. Ms Twila MacDonald and her crew put on an excellent spread. We were entertained by the song stylings of Ms Katie Goddard and Ms Sarah Bell.
Another great event here at the Campus. Well done to all for both the participation and the fantastic spirit. What a great day to be a Cadet and have fun in the 254!
