Oland, Elizabeth Marjorie "Betty"

Passed away February 4th, 2019.
It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth "Betty" Marjorie Oland of Halifax announce her passing Monday, February 4, 2019 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, at the age of 96. Born in Montreal, she was the daughter of the late John George Ramsay Shuter and Marjorie Heney. Betty grew up in Montreal and was educated at The Study and Kings Hall Compton. During the Second World War, she joined the Canadian Red Cross Corps Transport Division and served overseas with the Canadian and British Red Cross. She was a long-time member of the Junior League of Halifax and a volunteer for many years with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Betty was an avid skier, having learned in the Laurentians in her youth. She loved being with friends and spending time with her husband and family at their farm in Annapolis Valley. She was an amazing Mum, loved her children, her grandchildren and delighted in her great-grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Don James Oland; brother, John Charles Hosmer Shuter; and son-in-law, Donald Gordon Paterson. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Paterson, Chester; James Oland (Cathy), Halifax; and Brenda Huntley (Sandy), Halifax; as well as nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkland at the Gardens and the nursing staff at the Halifax Infirmary 7.2 for their professional and compassionate care. There is no visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or charity of your choice.
