  • Fine Arts 10 - Art 1

    The visual arts are an integral part of everyday life, permeating all levels of human creativity, expression, communication and understanding. This course encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. Students will develop analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as art-makers. In addition to exploring and comparing visual arts from different perspectives and in different contexts, students are expected to experiment with a wide range of contemporary practices and media that they create, make, and present. Students in Visual Arts will have the opportunity to express their creativity through painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.

  • Fine Arts 10 - Drama 1

    Drama helps beginners to become acquainted with the history of theatre, while looking at stage positioning and directions. Students will be focusing on the development of drama skills such as relaxation, trust, voice, blocking, and movement. These skills will be explored through a variety of theatre styles alongside activities and games.

  • Fine Arts 10 - Media Studies 1

    Media Studies is a project-based course that incorporates electronic media and creative design. Students will have the opportunity to express their creativity through photography, movie making (documentaries), and game design. The course aims to improve organization, teamwork and communication, time management, problem solving, and presentation skills.

  • Fine Arts 10 - Mixed Media 1

    Our creativity and artistic talent do not need to be defined by the mastery of detail with a sharpened pencil tip. This course is an alternative exploration of creativity and art through photography, large image painting, textiles, and a plethora of other mediums. The focus is finding creativity in the everyday and building skills that will facilitate creative expression throughout our lives.

    Our creativity and artistic talent do not need to be defined by the mastery of detail with a sharpened pencil tip. This course is an alternative exploration of creativity and art through photography, large image painting, textiles, and a plethora of other mediums. The focus is finding creativity in the everyday and building skills that will facilitate creative expression throughout our lives.  
  • Fine Arts 10 - Music 1

    Music- Introduction is a performance class for students who have little or no prior musical experience. Topics and activities are structured around a variety of material including music theory and basic fundamentals, analysis of different genres, and electronic music production.
  • Fine Arts 10 - Music 2 Advanced

    Music- Advanced is a performance ensemble class. Students selecting this option must be competent musicians and able to interpret music notation or chord progressions, given their respective instrument. Vocalists are also welcome, providing they too meet the prerequisite requirements. Students need to supply their own instruments, with the exception of piano and drums (the opportunity to rent an instrument is a popular option). Electronic musicians will be considered on an individual basis. This group will build a repertoire of pieces ranging in various musical genres, largely selected based on the instrumentation. Students often opt to focus on contemporary songs selected by the class, and arrangements are developed as a collaborative effort.

    These elective courses emphasize the practical elements of music composition and performance – therefore they are not advisable for the beginning student. The student must have a functional understanding of music theory, history, appreciation, and performance.

  • Theatre 11 - I.B.H.

    This is the first year of a two-year course in which students will develop the necessary skills and practical knowledge required for theatrical production including the design and technological aspects of theatre making. No previous experience with theatre is required as this course allows students to specialize in all aspects of theatre and is not simply an acting course. There are very specific requirements for the IB Programme, so the selection of SL or HL should be done in consultation with the teacher.
  • Theatre 11 - I.B.S.

    This is the first year of a two-year course in which students will develop the necessary skills and practical knowledge required for theatrical production including the design and technological aspects of theatre making. No previous experience with theatre is required as this course allows students to specialize in all aspects of theatre and is not simply an acting course. There are very specific requirements for the IB Programme, so the selection of SL or HL should be done in consultation with the teacher.

  • Visual Art 11 - I.B.H.

    This intensive IB art course is for students who have a serious interest in drawing, painting, design, and sculpture, as well as learning about art history and aesthetics. Students must consistently work in a workbook recording their entire experience in art making over the year. Assignments include art making, researching, reflective and descriptive writing, class critiques, and class presentations. By the end of the year, students should be able to develop their own art making themes, complete a workbook with their ideas, and examples, and be able to use their skills and techniques confidently in creating art.

    Higher Level students must work toward completing 240 hours of studio work by the middle of their Grade 12 year.  Studio work over the summer months is encouraged.
  • Visual Art 11 - I.B.S.

    This intensive IB art course is for students who have a serious interest in drawing, painting, design, and sculpture, as well as learning about art history and aesthetics. Students must consistently work in a workbook recording their entire experience in art making over the year. Assignments include art making, researching, reflective and descriptive writing, class critiques, and class presentations. By the end of the year, students should be able to develop their own art making themes, complete a workbook with their ideas, and examples, and be able to use their skills and techniques confidently in creating art.

    Standard Level students must work toward completing 150 hours of studio work by the middle of their Grade 12 year.
  • Visual Art 12

    Art is an option in Grades 10-12. The course is a blend of the theoretical and the practical. An International Baccalaureate credit may be obtained in Art but extra topics must be covered and additional studio work produced. The particular interests of the student are encouraged with an emphasis on originality and skill development. Students may work in a variety of media and the classroom is equipped with a potter’s wheel and kiln. Students are encouraged to work on special projects including wall murals and computer-generated art. Local galleries are visited and the university libraries are accessible to our students to assist with the units on Art History. Guest artists also visit the School each year.
  • Visual Art 12 - I.B.H.

    Prerequisite: Grade 11 IB Art or a personal portfolio demonstrating the student’s competent use of a variety of media generating several original art works or a completed art assignment package provided by the art teacher adequately demonstrating the student’s art making and writing skills.

    This intensive IB art course is for students who are seriously motivated and experienced in drawing, painting, design, and sculpture, as well as learning about art history and aesthetics. Students must consistently work in a workbook recording their entire experience in art making over the year. In April, students will exhibit their work in an IB examination exhibition. An IB art examiner will interview students for 30 minutes. By the end of the year student should have a personal body of work, a portfolio and experience exhibiting their work.

    Higher Level students must work toward completing 240 hours of studio work by the middle of their Grade 12 year.  Studio work over the summer months is encouraged.
