Atlantic High School Wrestling Festival Results
The small contingent from the KES wrestling team gave up some of their February break in order to participate in the Atlantic H.S. Wrestling Festival in Sackville this past weekend. The team of 7 wrestlers took home 3 medals in a very tough tournament featuring over 300 wrestlers from all three Maritime Provinces. Jacob Givner (85kg) and Jordan Horan (76 kg) lead the seniors with a bronze and silver respectively. Nathan Danquah was our lone junior winning a silver in the 85 kg class. He was outsized in the final giving up 5 kg to his strong opponent from N.B.
Jacob and Ross Traves were in two of the tougher weight classes over the weekend. Jacob lost against one of the toughest wrestlers in the tournament, from N.B., in his first match, and won all three of his following matches. Ross wrestled some of his very best in this tournament, but ran up against some tough competition from N.B. and P.E.I. opponents; losing a close one for bronze. Jordan and Jacob are light for their weight classes and Jordan was outmuscled in the gold medal match, after posting three straight wins, including a great finish with a very gut wrench series to a pin in his previous match. The team is off again this weekend to another high school tournament at Forrest Heights on Saturday.
