A Simpler Time

 

A Simpler Time is a collection of short comedies that is presented to you through the wonderful world of time travel. In an hour and a half, you will follow the lives of teenagers Marley, Chris, and Taylor who are desperately looking for a break from their chaotic, modern lives. With the world’s problems weighing heavily on their shoulders, they prepare to use a time machine to find “a simpler time”. They jump from a common household in the medieval ages, to a busy switchboard in the 1940s, and they even find themselves caught up in the future! A Simpler Time is brought to you by enthusiastic and spirited students who are bursting with bright talent.

 

In preparation for their shows on April 12 and 13, we are excited to present three members of our gifted cast and crew in the weekly newsletter to give you a sneak peek of the incredible talent you can expect to see! We hope you will support them by attending our performances in the spring.

Maran has been at Kings-Edgehill for four years and is in her Grade 10 year. Maran is heavily involved in the arts, as shown through her long backstage career helping in numerous school productions since she was in Grade 5 and being an enthusiastic dancer on the KES varsity dance team. Most recently, she was backstage for the productions Puffs and The Little Mermaid and will be working backstage for A Simpler Time. Maran is very passionate about the arts, she loves to dance and be involved in theatrical productions at King’s-Edgehill, saying it never feels like work to her! This year Maran will also appear onstage as a 1950s parent. Thank you, Maran!

This is Charlotte’s second year at King’s-Edgehill. Last year, she helped paint set pieces for Puffs, and this year she is stepping onstage as Goody Two-Shoes in A Simpler Time. Outside of the theatre, Charlotte helps with the Yearbook Club and is a creative and reliable member of the debate team. She recommends that people get involved in the arts because you are introduced to new skills, and it is a great way to exercise a different part of your brain. Her favourite part of being involved in the arts is getting to spend time with her friends in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

Sofia wowed everyone with her performance as Mufasa in the Junior School production of The Lion King and she is returning to the stage as Judy for A Simpler Time. She has been using her talents as a pianist in jazz band and IB music class and was an instrumental part of our Explore More piano program. At last month’s Cultural Fair, she performed four times and was one of our emcees. Additionally, Sofia is a Platoon Warrant Officer in the pipes and drums of our cadet corps. When asked what she enjoys about theatre, Sofia said that it’s a place where she can be free to do and experience things she wouldn’t in real life: “It’s the feeling of freedom and infinite uncertainty that I really enjoy in theatre.” Break a leg, Sofia!

This is Sadie’s second year here at King’s-Edgehill School. During last year's performance of Puffs, she helped backstage. This year she will make her debut onstage in A Simpler Time. Sadie says she joined the play as a fun new thing to try with her friends as well as it being a good way to develop her confidence on stage. Sadie is also an up-and-coming member of our debate team and a member of the yearbook club. Sadie says participating in the arts is good as it makes you well-rounded, allowing you to look into new parts of your personality, and the arts gets you out of your comfort zone. Thank you, Sadie!
