Highlanders Candy Cane Invitational Swim Meet

The Candy Cane Invitational held annually in Truro was the last big event of 2023 for our swimmers. The 3-day swim meet is a much-anticipated event and the athletes worked very hard in preparation.

The King’s-Edgehill swimmers showed off their hard work, anticipation, and eagerness to perform as expected. Sadly, the team was missing one athlete Rowan Francis ‘27 due to ill health. Rowan is a character whose absence was sorely missed; his name came up often over the weekend. We hope to see you next week Rowan – we have a lot of training planned!

Throughout the weekend the plan was to achieve a best time in prelims with the expectation of making finals in the evening, all of the athletes took this plan and ran with it. At the end of the meet on Sunday evening we had 27 personal best times with 12 finalists. We were so proud of our great result with such a small but mighty team.

In the New Year, our swimmers will start racing in 50-metre Olympic-size pools for the remainder of the season. Our goal for the New Year is to continue the success enjoyed in Truro.

We would like to thank KES parent extraordinaire volunteer Shelley Skedden for all the hats you wore this weekend! It was very much appreciated.

Finalists were:

Lillian Blois ‘27:
Seventh 200 breaststroke
Eighth 100 breaststroke
