Double-Double Sweep for Junior Soccer

The junior girls and boys each won the western region soccer championship last week. The girls travelled to Bridgetown on Tuesday and set the tone for success with an exciting victory. The semi-final was a thrilling overtime win over Bluenose Academy with Maggie Wellard ‘28 meshing the winner. The team won the final by a definitive score over Barrington Academy. Maggie scored twice in the final and Maanvi Manchineni ‘27 used her speed to score her first goal of the season after many assists. Addie Smith ‘27 was stellar in goal all season, only allowing one goal against in several games.

The junior boys ventured to Shelburne and also faced their stiffest competition in the semi-final coming back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Ecole Secondaire de Clare 3-2. Andrew Klein ‘27 was the key player scoring twice from a distance at key times. The midfield was anchored by Santiago Fernandez Cueto ‘28. The boys also cruised in the final with a victory over the host Shelburne to emerge as champions for a Highlander sweep of titles.
