2-1 Loss to Northern Selects

The Highlanders open the Sobey's Cup with a 2-1 loss to the eventual champions Northern Subways Selects. After jumping out to a lead early in the second period, the Highlanders continued to attack and create opportunities. The Selects tied the game with 52 seconds remaining in the second period off a deflected puck that was lost sight of and trickled over the line. The Selects then scored with 3 minutes remaining and hung on for the win. The Highlanders controlled large periods of the game but were unable to beat the eventual Player of Game winner, Northern Selects goalie.
