Senior Boys Junior Varsity Soccer Update

Our senior boys junior varsity soccer team played its second league game in as many weeks. We went back and forth with Yarmouth on Thursday afternoon; each time we took the lead they came back with an equalizer. Tony Ojinere ‘24 was consistent in net and saved a great Yarmouth chance midway through the second half with an extended dive to his right, keeping the game close. Yarmouth tied the match in the last minute of the match forcing penalties to decide the game. We scored in the first two shots, on stellar goals from Juan Pablo De Alba Fernandez ‘26 and Rodrigo Medina Ongay ‘26. The drama was set with both teams having shots going over the net, and with a post for Yarmouth. It came down to our fifth shooter and, as the story would have it, Grade 11 student and Yarmouth resident, Will Day ‘25 stepped up and sealed the win on a key left footer.

Goals during regular time were scored by Juan Pablo, Rodrigo and Andre Karabu ‘25. Player of the match was Rodrigo, as he was instrumental in the win with a particularly strong second half. He played well positionally and made some strong runs down the flank and swung the ball in numerous times to his teammates.

Our first league game resulted in a loss, in a close match to the cross-town rivals, Avon View. AV played a solid defence with some good saves to win against a KES team that out shot their competitors 5-1. We could have had more chances but tended to look too hard for the perfect chance and this resulted in lost opportunities.

The team has begun to rectify this inadequacy in this latest match, and we look to improve even more in our next game on Thursday, October 5 at home on Tanna Turf at 3:00 pm against Parkview. We would love to see you there!
