Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our athletic philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing gentleness and learning and dignity and respect. These student athletes also reflect the seven principles of “true sport”.

Junior Boy: Tommy Upton ‘26 has a strong understanding of rugby sevens, and he has led his teammates this season by modeling a consistent and solid work ethic, excellent skills, and a positive attitude. Tommy’s speed, agility and smooth plays have led him to countless tries in practice sessions and scrimmages. Tommy was a driving force at the Loyalists Jamboree at Rothesay Netherwood. There is no doubt Tommy has a bright future in KES athletics and will be a welcome addition to our senior rugby programme. Very well done, Tommy!

Junior Girl: Rowan Lloyd ‘26 is new to the sport of rugby, but you certainly wouldn’t know it! She demonstrates athleticism and confidence on the pitch, she and has picked up the skills of the game with ease. Rowan’s rugby future is looking bright as she plans to play summer rugby and has already attended a Nova Scotia Keltics U14 ID camp. Keep up the great work, Rowan!

Senior Girl: Autumn Fletcher ‘23 had her best performance of the year so far in our regional rugby final against our cross-town rival and her former team the Avon View Avalanche. With a few of our key try scorers out, Autumn showcased her impressive speed and incredible support as she managed to keep the ball alive numerous times in her way to three tries on the afternoon! Her standout performance earned her not only the player of the game tiara, but also helped earn us the regional banner and the right to host the provincial championships here on campus.

Senior Boy: Wyatt Carling ‘22 won hammer of the match in a closely fought regional final against a very tough Horton High School on May 19. He stayed cool under tremendous pressure, led our team in their improved rucking, and proved that a prop can score on the outside just like a winger when he earned a game-winning try with only minutes left. We're looking forward to seeing more excellent contributions from Wyatt.

Junior Boy: Fernando Fernandez Ochoa ‘26 had a fantastic weekend of sevens rugby in New Brunswick this past weekend. In addition to his unflinching tackling and tireless sprinting, Fernando played each moment of each game with energy and intensity. He was everywhere on the pitch, supporting his team and initiating plays, and always asking the coaches for feedback on what he could do better next time. Fernando demonstrated a true passion for the sport throughout the season. Well done, Fernando.

Junior Girl: Renata Nieto Carmiol ‘26 had an excellent performance on the rugby pitch in New Brunswick playing against the Loyalists Club and at Rothesay Netherwood School. She did an excellent job distributing the ball quickly and effectively and kept a cool and focussed mind under pressure. Renata knows how to give and receive a tackle and was always prepared to make a determined sprint forward or a key pass at the right moment. She was an incredible defensive strength and tackled players at least double her size on several occasions, preventing the opposition from scoring a try. Well done, Renata. 
           

Senior Boy: Nick Peddle ’22 showed extraordinary mental fortitude going into the senior boys rugby team's qualifying match against Citadel High School last week. This 'do or die' game was also Nick's first start ever. While exercising a calm resolve, Nick played extremely well – he out rucked and outran the opposition, made excellent tackles, and scored twice, contributing to the boys' victory which secured a berth at the provincial championships here at KES this weekend. Good work, Nick!
