KES à Québec!

The sun was shining, and the air was crisp early on Tuesday, May 3, as 29 of our Grade 8 students left campus en route to Quebec City. Mr. Hollett, Mrs. Belliveau and Mr. Baumann were excited to get on the road too and, although the hour was early, the energy on the bus was palpable as I wished the travelers un bon voyage. The five-day adventure was jam-packed with activities and learning thanks to Mr. Hollett’s excellent planning. It had been three years since our Grade 8 classes had the opportunity to travel to Quebec for this annual cultural experience, and we were all thrilled that COVID-19 travel restrictions had been lifted, making the adventure possible.

The rich history, architecture, culture, and being immersed in the French language provided meaningful learning opportunities and lots of great memories. From folk dancing and sampling maple taffy at a sugar shack, to experiencing circus life on a trapeze or unicycle, the itinerary was creative and fun. Students enjoyed the interactive visit at the Battlefields Park and got close-up views of the amazing aquatic life at the Aquarium du Québec. Time with friends exploring the shops and cafes in Old Quebec was enjoyed by all.

There was so much to see and do, and our Grade 8 class did it all. Mr. Hollett’s daily blog kept everyone at a distance close to the action, and the photo gallery capturing the student camaraderie and experiences was appreciated by all. Renata Nieto Carmiol '26 and Sofia Loperena de Regil '26 produced a wonderful post-trip video highlighting the journey which was shown at our Junior assembly this week. Our Grade 7 students were wide-eyed as they imagined their opportunity to experience the Quebec adventure next year!
