Spring Varsity Captains

This week at assembly, the captains of our spring varsity teams were recognized for the leadership they have provided their respective groups. Each of these student-athletes were awarded their captain’s pin which serves as an outward symbol of the leadership role they undertake within the context of their athletic commitments.

 

Lucas has been with the badminton programme since the Junior School, where his dedication to the sport and support for his fellow athletes has always been apparent. This year like last, Lucas helped to lead the team to victory in the districts, and he played well at regionals. His leadership, commitment to his teammates, and sense of fair play has been evident in all his seasons with KES, and this is why he is a captain for badminton.

 

Jennifer has shown commitment to the badminton programme through the quality and focus of her play in competition and the time she spends in our gym practicing with all levels of players. Like last year, she helped lead our team to victory at the districts, and she advanced to regionals in both the individual and team categories. Her maturity, commitment to fair play, and quiet confident leadership and maturity is why she is a captain for badminton.

 

Maya is the leader of our team who balances her competitive spirit with a supportive approach. She can be counted on to do what is needed for our team to be successful and is the steward of our programme’s culture.

 

A member of our team since Grade 9, Gala has embraced everything our team stands for and now fosters those same values. Gala supports positive relationships with all of her teammates and her humble, hard-working approach is both endearing and inspiring.

 

Hanna’s selfless approach to the game and our team is admirable. Her positivity and desire to see others succeed is infectious. She leads by example and works hard for any opportunity that she earns.

 

Justin Day ‘22, Greg Otto ‘22

These two experienced, disciplined, highly technical, and very hard-working captains earned the respect and admiration of the rugby team long before we played our first game. They lead by example on the pitch and are catalysts for the success we have on the field. All of the boys benefit from the positive examples these two excellent rugby players and leaders set. They will continue to be integral to our team's path towards the provincial championships later this term.

There are many different ways to lead and encourage, but Quinn Emery does it the best way: by example. An encouraging voice around the track and a work ethic that doesn't quit, Quinn has fully earned the respect of his teammates and coaching staff. Thank you, Quinn, for your dedication and leadership.

 

A leader on and off the field, Betts, otherwise known as “Mook”, takes true ownership of his results. He has been battling the injury bug all season but shows up day in and day out working his butt off and challenging his teammates.

 

Eric is a leader in his actions and a spark plug for our team. Having an incredible season on the mound, Eric sets the tone during games and practices with his intensity and competitiveness. Most importantly, Eric leads by example and is a positive voice on and off the field.

 

Cam, like Eric, is a leader in his actions. An intense competitor with a drive to win has helped Cam take his game to the next level, and he serves as a mentor to the younger players on the squad. Cam is an example that through hard work and dedication you can do anything.

Isaac is a true professional on and off the field. Isaac is always positive and the player who tries to get the team fired up during challenging times.
