Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the week are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and is integral to our athletics philosophy and School mission statement emphasizing gentleness and learning and dignity and respect. These student athletes also reflect the seven principles of “true sport”.

FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 25 – 31

Junior Boy: Tommy Upton ‘26 was a key part of the Junior boys’ success in their regional soccer qualifying match. His tireless work in the midfield, physical presence and expert ball control set him apart from the opposition and time and again gave our team the advantage. Tommy has been a key feature of the team’s game throughout the season and his passion for the game, paired with his experience and tireless competitive drive make him well deserving of this award. Well done, Tommy.

Junior Girl: Caitlin Behan ’25 was the star of the game at the Junior girls soccer play-in game in Shelburne on October 26. She brought all she had and made incredible saves in the worst possible conditions. She saved a penalty kick in the second half of the game to help her team keep the lead and move on to tier two regionals. Her team was lifted by her hard work as keeper, and she made us all proud. Great work, Caitlin!

Senior Girl: Autumn Fletcher ’23 is a rookie to our team but is a veteran on the volleyball court. This positive, self-motivated, focused and hard-working athlete is continually striving to improve her skills every time she steps foot on the court. She is always reliable and gives 110% and continually asks questions to develop her positional play. I look forward to watching Autumn grow as a team player. Well done, Autumn!

Senior Boy: Raul Cortes ‘24 has proven himself an incredible asset to the D1 soccer squad. He is our brain and engine in the central midfield. Raul can create attacks and chances out of nothing. He has a very fine touch on the ball and an eye for the open teammate. Raul is not only a creator of good chances, but he is also a born finisher. He displayed his ability to score in the first half against Horton by scoring two goals within ten minutes. He is an exceptional athlete but more importantly he is humble, a great team player, and he always gives 100% on and off the field. He embodies our School’s values like no other. Well done, Raul.

FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 1 – 7

Junior Boy: Oluwadamilola (Dami) Adeniji ‘25 has had a fantastic soccer season. His poise and ball control, paired with his physicality and competitive spirit have made him a key element for the team’s midfield. In the district finals, Dami led by example, giving his all with skill and determination. He is an excellent team player, who selflessly distributes the ball and drives in offensively to great effect. Well done, Dami.

Junior Girl: Ali MacLean ‘27 was a driving force on the junior girls soccer team this season. She played with skill and endurance, scored the team a goal in last week’s regional final, and helped the roster earn a silver medal. In addition to her Junior School contributions in cross country and soccer, Ali also plays on the Valley Wild peewee AAA hockey team and scored four tries last Sunday at the Rugby Nova Scotia youth sevens series (which is a U-17 league!). On top of all this, she was a pillar of speed and intelligence as the development hockey team brought home the gold at the Armbrae ACIS Invitational Hockey Tournament. It was a nail biter! We would not have won it without her!

Senior Girls: Lauren Hainstock ‘22 had an impressive weekend with the girls prep basketball team in Toronto at the Chris Smalling Classic, averaging 16 points per game and being a constant presence on both ends of the floor. Lauren was selected from the entire field of 388 players making up the rosters of 24 elite level teams as a tournament stand out player. Congratulations, Lauren.

Senior Boy: Simon Beaudry ’23 plays for the senior boys prep hockey team and despite playing through a minor injury against the Mount U-18 #2 he never gave up on the plays. He is a leader both on and off the ice, and his preparation for games is second to none. The team depends on Simon each game and appreciate his commitment to the programme. Well done, Simon!

FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 15 – 21

Junior Boy: Hunter Hood ’26 played on our development hockey team at the junior high ACIS tournament in Halifax, hosted by Armbrae Academy. Wins over Sacred Heart, Armbrae, Summit Academy and Halifax Grammar School all meant we won the tournament. A large part of the effort was led by Hunter. Scoring multiple goals last Thursday and Friday, Hunter led by example and not only worked hard but displayed top-notch sportsmanship. He left the best for the last as he potted the shootout winner in the final game! Great job, Hunter.

Senior Girls: Haley Hunt ‘22 is one of the backbones of the female varsity volleyball team. She is one of the most consistent and hard-working student athletes at KES and is a veteran on the volleyball court. This self-motivated, determined and hard-working athlete is continually grasping to perfect her skills every time she steps foot on the court. She is always reliable, open to constructive criticism, smiles, gives 110% and continually asks questions to develop her positional play. Her work ethic, experience and game knowledge was apparent during last weekend's regional championship. An excellent season Haley!
