Senior School Play - Almost, Maine

It was around this time last year when the Senior School students were putting the final touches on their scenes for the Senior School Play, A Simpler Time. Unfortunately, production came to an abrupt halt, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fast-forward a year later, and the gang is back at it again! King’s-Edgehill is (finally!) proud to introduce our second Senior School play production, Almost, Maine, which brings together a group of passionate and dedicated students from Grades 10-12.

Almost, Maine has been one of the top high school play productions for the past few years, and it offers a collection of short love scenes, exploring new-found love, long-lasting friendships that take an exciting leap of faith, or partnerships whose love has dissolved over time. With the world’s problems weighing heavily on our shoulders, our Senior School students present uplifting and inspiring stories that remind us of the good things in life. Even when faced with adversity, love will find a way. Almost, Maine is brought to you by enthusiastic and spirited students who are bursting with bright talent.

In preparation for the shows on April 21st and 22nd, we are excited to present two members of our gifted cast and crew in our weekly Newsletter to give you a sneak peak of the incredible talent you can expect to see!

Taylor Cole is one of the talented actors in our Senior School Play. She has attended King’s-Edgehill School for 5 years and is a day student from Nova Scotia. She has been participating in theatrical productions since she was 8 years-old and enjoys stepping onto the stage and into a different personality. She has been involved with every Senior School Play production at KES and is also involved with “Quick As A Wink” community theatre. She is passionate about the Arts and finds it rewarding when she shares her experience and knowledge with younger students at summer theatre camps. When asked why students should be involved with the Arts, she responded:

I would absolutely recommend participation in the Arts! Being a part of a cast provides self confidence, team work and it’s always a lot of fun, no matter who you are. There’s always a place for you, whether you’re on or off-stage, you have the opportunity to meet some really interesting people and learn new skills that will stay with you forever.

Jiahuan “Edward” He is now in his third year at King’s-Edgehill School and will be graduating in June 2021. He is one of the knowledgeable Stage Managers who runs the tech booth for all the Senior School Play performances. His interest in light production is evident as he enjoys connecting colours to moods, depending on the scene. Although he started his theatre experience as a cast member, working as part of the stage crew has allowed him to make creative artistic choices alongside the directing team. He is proud to be part of the hard-working cast and crew that make each production so great! His time running the light system helped him learn to work independently while learning new skills. When asked about his favourite part of working backstage, he responded:

“I enjoy being part of the production. I like watching, helping, and working together to make the play great”.

All of his hard work and dedication to the Arts will be greatly missed when he graduates this summer. Everyone involved with the Senior School Play wishes you all the best! Good luck, Edward!
