MacKay, Lucie Elan

Passed away July 30, 2019
Born August 25, 1963 in Baddeck, Lucie was the daughter of the late Walter "Wally" MacKay and Norma (MacLeod) MacKay and she lived in the Baddeck area for most of her life. She grew up living with her parents and late grandfather Malcolm William "M.W." MacLeod at his house on the hill in Big Baddeck. M.W. gave her the nickname "Chuggybear" and she cherished his memory, all her life. Lucie endeared herself to so many people who visited the Baddeck Co-op during her 24 years of employment. With her radiant smile, tireless work ethic, and genuine interest in the wellbeing of others she set a wonderful example for her children about how to be a good person. Lucie is survived by her loving husband, Kenny Pierrard, alongside whom she'd laugh joyfully while they'd enjoy slow drives all around Big Baddeck and down the Baddeck Forks road to Centre Bridge, their favourite spot. They always had so much fun and were truly smitten with one another. Being a mother to her three children was her highest calling. She loved every aspect of motherhood and she viewed the responsibility as a wonderful privilege. She was a remarkable woman, and a truly great mom. Her three children, now all grown-up, survive her. Everything she did, she did for them. They were her babies and she was exceptionally proud of them. She was so proud of her oldest boy, Matthew MacIntyre, his wife Katelyn and of their twin boys, Jaxon and William, to whom she was affectionately known as "Nanny Kay". Knowing what it's like to raise MacIntyre boys, she had a special appreciation for Katelyn; and she would glow when she spoke of Matthew's family. Her middle boy, Malcolm MacIntyre, reminded her so much of her beloved father, Wally - she always said it was "the ears". Since he was a little boy she never wavered in her belief that the sky was the limit for him. Lucie's superpower was that she always made him feel like a million bucks just for being himself, so he grew up uniquely Malcolm. They were each other's biggest fan-she was his hero. Her love for her youngest child, her baby girl, Neila MacIntyre was ever apparent and beautiful. More alike than perhaps either would easily admit, their bond was especially close: both were late summer babies, incredibly strong-willed; and of the three children, Neila spent the most time with "Mumsy". They were best friends. Donald Malcolm "Malcy" MacIntyre, her first husband, and father of her children, also survives her. They really got it right with the kids. She is further survived by her mother's sister, Carron "Aunt Ga" Jeansonne, her husband Michel Jeansonne, and her cousins, Lawrence and Tara. Her father, Wally, was one of 12 MacKay children, and her mother Norma had many relatives, too. Lucie did her best to stay in touch with her family over the years and was especially close with her cousin, Allison, whom she regarded like a sister. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Taylor Pierrard, whom she welcomed into her life with Kenny. She delighted in having another girl in the mix. In her life Lucie attracted a small circle of very close friends with whom she maintained enduring friendships over the years. They were like sisters and she loved them dearly. As she wished, Lucie has been cremated under the care and direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, and will rest near her parents in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Baddeck Forks following a brief service at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4th. A celebration of her life will follow in Baddeck Forks Community Hall - all who knew her are welcome.
